NEW STATE-WIDE RADIO AD RELEASED ON MARSY’S LAW SOUTH DAKOTA

Pennington County Sheriff Kevin Thom, Minnehaha County Sheriff Mike Milstead, Pennington County State’s Attorney Mark Vargo, and House Speaker Mark Mickelson are headlining a new state-wide radio buy for Marsy’s Law which South Dakotans will hear leading up to Election Day on June 5.

In 2016, South Dakotans voted to officially pass Marsy’s Law, with 60% in favor of Amendment S. Today, nearly three-quarters of constituents continue to support Marsy’s Law. On June 5, voters will decide on Amendment Y, a constitutional amendment, which will only strengthen the rights currently set forth in the state constitution under Marsy’s Law.

Marsy’s Law currently guarantees that victims of crime in South Dakota are informed about their rights and the services available to them and that they get notification of court proceedings and updates on developments in their criminal cases. Measure Y seeks to further empower victims of crime and give needed tools to law enforcement in solving crimes. Pennington County State’s Attorney Mark Vargo advocates for Amendment Y – “We need to make sure our victims not only can be heard but can be heard meaningfully.”

The radio ads are being used in a statewide digital media campaign on Facebook and Twitter to help educate voters about Marsy’s Law and Amendment Y.

“Supporting Amendment Y speaks to the values of the people in South Dakota and that we keep victims and their families at the forefront when it comes to our criminal justice system,” said Sheriff Kevin Thom of Pennington County, for Marsy’s Law in South Dakota.
